About PTE
PTE (Pearson Test of English) is an English proficiency test that is accepted for immigration purposes and by numerous educational institutions as well as Immigration department across the globe. PTE is recognised in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA, Canada and Europe.
How Does The PTE Exam Work?
PTE is an entirely computer-based test. That is, all your skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – are tested by a computer during a 3-hour test. After researching the different types of English spoken across the globe, Pearson designed a computer program that can test English language skills as well as a human can. You can find out about the structure and scoring of PTE at the Pearson website.
IS PTE EASIER THAN IELTS?
This really depends on the individual. Some students take IELTS many times and just cannot get the score they need. They then switch to PTE and finally ace the test!
Should I Take The PTE Exam?
Students who swap from IELTS to PTE are often students who score well in speaking, but always fail the written section. For students who have trouble with writing skills, PTE is a great alternative, as it is usually easier to get a better score in this section on PTE.
Another great advantage of PTE is that you can get your results really fast. You can book your test straight away, and receive your result within five business days. So it's a great option for people who need it straight away.
However, it is important to remember that PTE is done entirely on a computer! So, if you have poor computer skills – that is, if you type very slowly or find computers difficult to use – PTE may not be for you. Similarly, students with very bad speaking skills often find the speaking section of PTE very hard, and as a result score very low.
